Entertaining With Wines Of Ontario: Buying Ontario Wine
Buying wine doesn't have to be a daunting experience. With just a little knowledge, choosing Ontario wines can be enjoyable!

Where can I purchase Ontario wines?

Ontario Wines are available in four locations:
  • Visit www.winesofontario.ca and follow links to Ontario Winery websites — many of the wineries sell direct over the Internet
  • Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) stores — in the general section and the VINTAGES area
  • Winery Retail Stores — there are over 330 across Ontario
  • Ontario Wineries — you will find wines that are only available at the winery and also have an opportunity to tour the winery and sample wines at the tasting bar

Where can I find advice?

Many LCBO stores have specially trained Ontario Wine experts to help you choose the right wine or plan that perfect party. Every Winery Retail Store also has trained and knowledgeable staff. And, of course, if you visit a winery you can get advice straight from the source!

Another great way to choose the right wine is try it first. Ontario Wines are regularly sampled in most LCBO and Winery Retail stores, and every winery offers tastes of its own wines — it's a great way to experiment and try new varietals!

With all this advice available, there's no reason to not explore the wonderful character and variety of Ontario Wines. Don't just stick to well-known varietals like Chardonnay or Cabernet — experiment with other whites like Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, or Gewurztraminer, or reds like Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir, Baco Noir, or Merlot.

And try varietals from different Ontario wineries, to experience the variations in styles and winemaking. You'll notice, for example, that a Chardonnay from one winery will have a different taste and character than a Chardonnay from another. Soils, vineyard location and the distinctive craftsmanship of the winemaker all influence the wine and give it the flavours you enjoy.
